Under 14 report – Blackburn V Bonbeach at Blackburn Baseball Club

We were playing top of the ladder today so we knew it was going to be hard.

The first fielding innings was 3 up and 3 down and we looked good but for the rest of the match it all went downhill.

We just didn’t bat the ball and many a time struck out.

Matt had a great catch at 2nd base.

Shaun had a good tag at 2nd base.

Skip has a nice catch out at centrefield.

Unfortunately we lost the game 15-0.

Thanks to Sam (our coach); to Rob (Tom’s Dad) for warming up the kids and Leonie (Nick’s mum) for scoring and all the parents that came and watched!

Under 14 report – Bonbeach V Sandringham at Bonbeach Baseball Club

This week we had all of our 11 players with 2 on the bench.

We had two pitchers today with Luke and Sean pitching. Good pitching. We also had two catchers on the day with Duane and Tom. Good job.

There was many a tag at home where the pitch went over the catcher’s head and flicked back to get the runner out.

Bottom of the 2nd innings saw 3 up 3 down. Great job by the guys.

2 base hits were hit by Luke; Sean and Nick who was very unlucky for his hit not to go over the cones.

The funniest comment of the day by our coach Sam was “hit and run” to the boys when they were up to bat. Then DJ, Chris and Skip went up to bat and were all hit by the pitcher. The comment should have been “bat the ball and run”. No injuries and all okay.

Overall the team fielded and hit well. The team is really coming together now and we won with a good result 16 – 8.

Thanks to Sam (our coach); to Rob (Tom’s Dad) for warming up the kids and Leonie (Nick’s mum) for scoring and all the parents that came and watched!

Under 14 report – Bonbeach V Upwey Ferntree Gully at Bonbeach Baseball Club

This week we had all of our 11 players with 2 on the bench. Upwey Ferntree Gully only started with 8 so we lent our reserve Ken to field in left field who I might add took a beautiful catch out in left field getting our own team player out.

We had two pitchers today with Sean and Josh pitching. Good pitching. We also had two catchers on the day with Duane and Tom. Good job.

In the first innings we had a brilliant double play by Luke who was playing short stop. He fielded the ball ran to 2nd (runner out) and threw to 1st base Nick and got the runner out. Brilliant! Luke also hit (2) two base hits.

Josh had a nice right field hit.
Tom had a nice left field hit and nice fielding and throwing to 1st.
Chris had a nice right field hit.
Sean caught a great high catch at right field.

Skipper batted well also with a nice left field hit and a down the line hit past 3rd base. Also nice tag whilst playing at 3rd.

The highlight of the day was when we saw the boys put their training into fruition with a run down of a player between 1st and 2nd base. Great job to Nick (1st base), Tom (2nd base) and Luke (shortstop).

Overall the team played really well. We won with a good result 13 - 4.

Thanks to Sam (our coach); to Rob (Tom’s Dad) for umpiring and Leonie (Nick’s mum) for scoring and all the parents that came and watched!

Under 14 report – Bonbeach V Melbourne at Bonbeach Baseball Club

This week we had a full team.

We had a number of pitchers today with Nick, Sean, Josh and Luke. Good pitching. We also had two catchers on the day with Duane and Tom. Good job.

Sean took a great catch at short and double played to tag runner from 2nd to 3rd.

2 base hits were hit by Josh, Nick and Luke.

Luke fielded well with a pick up at short and nice throw to Nick (1st base). Also a nice throw to 2nd.

Unfortunately we ended with a loss 3 – 10 against a strong and confident side Melbourne.

Thanks to Sam (our coach) and Leonie (Nick’s mum) for scoring and all the parents that came and watched!

Under 14 report – Bonbeach V Doncaster at Bonbeach Baseball Club

This week we had all the equipment considering we were playing at home but unfortunately we had only 8 players. Doncaster lent us 1 player who took a beautiful catch out in right field getting his own team player out.

We had a number of pitchers as Sam is obviously trying out all of the kids to see who can pitch. Good job by Sean, Nick, Skipper and Duane. Tom (at 2nd base) had two brilliant plays fielding and throwing the ball to 1st. Matt had a brilliant catch out in left field which brought a smile to his face. There were 2 good tags by DJ at 3rd base. Good throwing by Duane (catcher).

Overall we were good in the field and didn’t bat too bad but we gave too many walks away. Doncaster definitely knew how to run bases. The team is really bonding together and will get better over time.

We unfortunately ended with a losing result of 12-27.

Under 14 report – Moorabbin V Bonbeach at Moorabbin Baseball Club

The day started out very eventful with only 7 players turning up. We had no kit bag and we found our coach at 8.55am wandering through the parklands of Moorabbin trying to find us. Apparently he got lost (exceptions given considering he has only been in Australia for a week and a half). Thanks to the parents that pitched in to warm up the kids before the start.

We started with only 7 players and borrowed one from Moorabbin. Half way through the game another 2 players turned up thankfully.

Even though we were walked a lot and had loaded bases a lot of the time, Moorabbin fought hard with a number of outfield hits. We had three pitchers over the game and had two good outs at 1st and a nice tag at 2nd. A high fowel ball was hit and beautifully caught by Bonbeach.

Overall for our first game the team really bonded together and the kids are looking forward to the next training session and the season with our new coach, Sam.

We ended with a good result winning 19-12.
